The aim of the project is to promote health, through the training of local health workers and the providing of diagnostic equipment in the region of Ziguinchor in Senegal, a country with a birth rate of 35/1,000 inhabitants, and an infant mortality rate of 52.72 deaths /1,000 live births.
The project responds to a shortage diagnostic equipment of primary importance, such as ultrasound equipment and the training necessary for its use in an area with a high density of child population.

Training ultrasound doctors - Mission 2017
Aim
In a country where medical care is not free of charge, the project intends to promote free diagnostic tests. The impact of the POC ultrasound method (a total-body ultrasound performed by the clinician at the bedside) on public health is particularly high in low-income countries where alternative diagnostic means are either non-existent, or come at a high cost; in this context, this particular generation of ultrasound is an ideal low-cost technology, easy to use, in no way harmful for the patient, of wide use, applicable on several body parts, and can be used by the same health care worker who is treating the patient.
In addition, the training of local medical staff in the use of POC ultrasound involves a high impact in terms of public health, providing them with lasting skills and creating independence from external human and financial resources. A sustainable project, therefore, for the benefit of a large number of people (the population of the district of Ziguinchor is approximately 750,000 inhabitants).
The training, targeted at 32 health professionals in Hopital de la Paix and in 5 Centers de Santé, will be guaranteed by a staff of medical volunteers from the association Kalambeno, our project partner, who has extensive experience in Senegal, and whose collaboration helps keep costs down considerably. After a period of on-the-job training, they will be followed remotely by Italian personnel.

Aim
The overall goal of the project is to improve the socio-economic condition of the population in the Oussouye department. The specific objectives include the revival of activities with the creation of an infrastructure that will improve agricultural productivity in the department villages through the construction of fences which can prevent, or minimise the attacking of crops by wild animals, and the production of a channelling system in order to reduce water dispersion.
Direct beneficiaries: the farmers in various villages where the construction of the fences and channels will be initially implemented.
Indirect beneficiaries: all the inhabitants of the area who will enjoy an improvement in trade flows in the area, thanks to the introduction into the local market of the surplus produced by agriculture.
