Support Project For Pre-School Education In The Khulna District - Bangladesh

Our NGO signed a memorandum of understanding with DALIT, a Bangladeshi NGO, in order to identify, develop and promote international cooperation initiatives to be realised in DALIT's area of operational expertise (districts of Khulna, Jessore, Satkhira and Bagerhat).
Aims
In Bangladesh, the Dalit community (which means "untouchables/outcasts") is one of the most marginalised groups in socio-economic and political terms.
The main objective of the Dalit initiatives is to improve the social and health conditions of Dalits and other marginalised communities in the districts of Khulna, Jessore, Satkhira and Bagerhat, and to increase the level of literacy among children/and Dalits, as well as members of other marginalised communities.
100 children, between 4 and 5 years old, will attend 5 DALIT pre-schools to familiarise themselves with learning before starting primary school. To help them practice drawing and learning the alphabet and numbers, they will each receive a blackboard, chalk and duster, pencils, sharpeners, erasers, notebooks, mats to sit on and some posters for the school walls.
Organising activities with children is not enough to guarantee them a better future if their families are not made aware of the need. To this effect, every two months a meeting with parents will be organised at the school to increase their knowledge on the importance of education, and other basic human rights. An important topic at these meetings will be explaining the right to education for girls, who suffer most in poor families, and creating awareness among parents that postponing marriages will give girls the opportunity to complete their studies. The biggest risks to health (both physical and psychological) relating to early marriage and pregnancy are also explained.
